Trainee Mechanic

Polarcus is a pure play marine geophysical company with a pioneering environmental agenda, specializing in high-end towed streamer data acquisition from Pole to Pole. Mechanics are responsible for the maintenance and deployment of seismic in-sea equipment and the maintenance of back deck systems, working closely with other departments where required. Their role includes: • Maintaining high pressure air systems with 2000-3000 psi working pressures • Maintaining hydraulic and PLC control systems to pressures of 250 bar • Maintaining high pressure seismic energy source systems • Fault-finding and operation of seismic source controller (electronics) • Back deck vessel operations including deployment and recovery of in-sea equipment Your career We offer you the opportunity to work with leading industry experts, the newest technology and the most modern seismic vessels available today. Your career path as a seismic trainee can take you through to department leader and Party Manager running the operations offshore or to technical roles onshore. Polarcus will provide you with the training and experience you need to reach these goals. Our training Our seismic trainees join a structured program with the goal of promotion to Observer, Navigator or Mechanic after three trips offshore: typically after seven to eight months after starting. You will attend a two-week induction course in Dubai that introduces you to the industry, the company and your role. Importantly, we give you the safety training you need to work on a vessel. On your first trip offshore you will rotate through the departments to see all aspects of the operation. After each trip offshore as a trainee you will receive further training to develop your abilities. The courses are focused on the technical and operational aspects of the job and are typically run in the UK, France and Norway. Working offshore with Polarcus Working offshore with us offers the best of both worlds for individuals who want to be pioneers; the challenges of new and exciting frontier exploration, and the knowledge that you are part of a new company concerned for the environment and its inhabitants. We operate a five-week crew rotation period which is guaranteed to be on one of our ultra-modern new build fleet of seismic vessels. We fly you to the vessel wherever it is in the world, and at the end of the five weeks we fly you home. Our vessels are designed by Ulstein Design AS and incorporate many advanced maritime features. They also meet with Comfort Class standards providing the reduced noise, vibration and improved indoor climate benefits that offer the highest level of comfort, health and safety during both work and rest periods. The onboard facilities including work areas, cabins, state of the art gymnasium, conference and training rooms are all built to the highest Scandinavian standards. Requirements Trainee Mechanics require a degree in Mechanical Engineering You should be: prepared to travel and work worldwide; prepared to work on the back deck of a vessel, in often harsh environments; prepared to take part in small boat operations fixing in-sea equipment; have good spoken and written English; possess flexibility and be a team player.
