DIGITAL TRAINEE

In order to support our vision to be Best on Water, BW is looking for a highly motivated trainee that can help drive digital initiatives in our organisation. We are seeking a trainee with technology background, the mindset of tomorrow and who would like to influence the efficiency of our operation and the way we work. Our trainee has a passion for digital and smart solutions and will work closely with our digital team and business users to deliver on our customers’ expectations, improve operational performance and drive our progress towards a low carbon society.

Our trainee will be a part of one of the leading management programmes in Norway, Maritime Trainee, which is organised for leading players in the maritime industry by the Norwegian Shipowner’s Association (Rederiforbundet). The programme lasts for 18 months and combines working in a world leading maritime company with five academic modules planned to take place in Norway, Singapore and London, offering you an outstanding way to start your career. In BW, the trainee will spend time across various departments and get exposed to commercial, financial, legal and technical challenges. There is potential for spending parts of the trainee period in Singapore and to join one of our LNG carriers for a shorter sailing period.


Possible responsibilities:

  • Explore opportunities for automating repetitive tasks both on shore and onboard our vessels
  • Align and simplify processes across the organisation through digital solutions and building enhanced user interfaces
  • Support business users on data analytics and in turning data into actionable insight, for instance through use of Power BI and Python
  • Leverage our organisation’s operational and technical expertise in combination with our IoT-data and machine learning to help optimise our operation and reduce emissions
  • Explore and test the viability of emerging technologies, such as robotics, artificial intelligence, and augmented reality
  • Participate in innovation projects exploring the solutions for tomorrow

Qualifications:

The right candidate may have:

  • An MSc in Engineering or equivalent (e.g. Marine Technology, Industrial Economics, Computer Science, Physics and Mathematics) with relevant studies covering information technology, informatics, cybernetics or equivalent.
  • Background from or general interest in marine technology may be an advantage
  • Excellent command of English
  • Programming skills

  • Thrive on working closely with the business side and focus on generating value to our customers
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Fast learner with interest of developing new skills and sharing knowledge with others

If you are about to finish your master’s degree in technology, business, IT or law you should consider applying to this renowned program. Applicants with 1-2 years’ work experience are also encouraged to apply. The program lasts for 18 months and combines working in a world leading maritime company with an academic program with five modules conducted in Norway, Singapore and London. This is an outstanding way to start a career in  a global industry where Norway is one of the leading nations. As a trainee you will work in a leading Norwegian maritime company and participate in an academic program with five modules in Norway and abroad. The academic program will cover topics such as digitalization of the maritime industry, insurance, finance and international regulations and maritime market opportunities within the ocean industries (offshore oil and gas, offshore renewable, aquaculture and fisheries, deep sea mining etc.). You will be hired in a permanent job and given a mentor that will support you as you embark on a global career. As part of the 18-months long program, you will rotate in the company’s different departments in Norway and abroad. This gives you a unique platform to kickstart your career.
