Lead/Senior Power Research Analyst

Power and Carbon Research (Point Carbon), part of Commodity Research at Refinitiv have a strong footprint in the commodity community. We have been in the business of Renewables, Power and Carbon markets since 1998. Oslo is our biggest location for Power and Carbon Research; however, we have analyst in Beijing, Gdynia, Tokyo, Lund and Sao Paulo.


Energy transition and zero emission policies increase the demand for our services in trading analytics and sustainable finance and we are now expanding our teams in Oslo, Gdynia, and US with in total 12 new analysts.


Position Overview

The key task for the Lead/Senior Power analyst will be to follow the Power markets on price movements, government policy and regulations in Europe and globally both short and long-term. The candidate will have strong analytical writing and quantitative skills, working to produce market briefs, analyze price development and price drivers in addition to model development. The analyst will have high attention to detail, possess excellent communication skills that will be reinforced by client facing interactions and engagement with the market’s participants in collaboration with Colleagues in Sales team.  The analyst will be self-motivated, inquisitive, resourceful, and independent, with the ability to work with the remainder of the Power analyst team in Oslo.


Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Main task will be to write market briefs and analytical reports with minimum supervision

  • Support quantitative analysis of supply and demand and other fundamental price drivers

  • Support development and improvement of quantitative modelsdata handling, data processing and some programming

  • Keep track of market developments, regulatory changes and trends, in addition to outages, new builds and turn the information into relevant analytics for subscribers

  • Gather market data from primary sources


Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-7 years of commercial experience in research and analysis of Energy markets

  • Demonstrated analytical and writing skills, excellent teamwork and communication skills. 

  • High attention to detail, self-motivated and independent

  • Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills in English.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Higher education in economics, statistics, mathematics, physics, engineering or equivalent.  With proven analytic and writing skills in Energy market all educational background is relevant.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word/EXCEL and in use of analytical software (MatLab/python)
